Misc. II

Just some random things from our life in Kingston. First at the FedEx office we had to take a picture of this 'gentleman' - with a big gun! Next - just in case you want to purchase some Crab Grass - this is your place. Jamaican customs opens EVERY package and retapes it - these are the boxes that come every month with the Church Magazines in them - and every month they open, inspect and reclose them - kind of a waste of time and money I think.

Easter Baskets

Happy Easter everybody....Our Savior loved us so much and we need to Love One Another. Here are the Branch President and wife and missionaries of the Yallahs Branch of the Church in Yallahs, Jamaica. Elder Hitchcock and Elder Danvers, with their Easter Baskets. The Assistants to the President that work in the office some of the time - Elder Kraus and Elder Randle, last the Office Elders, Elder Hobbs and Elder Gurr - both from Canada.

Easter Cupcakes

This week was our first Transfers serving in the office - it was a little crazy - with our seven new elders stranded in the Dallas airport! they went to the Dallas/Fort Worth Mission home and came to Jamaica four days later - in their same clothes because they didn't have their luggage! I found this picture of Transfers in a file and thought it was funny.
I made Easter cupcakes for the office staff and elders - they all liked them, but I think some of the Jamaicans didn't know about bunnies and chicks and eggs, etc. They don't celebrate much here - had to go to several stores to find Easter candy, etc. We gave some cupcakes to our single medical student neighbor, also the Landlady and her son that live upstairs.

Mission Office

This is the Mission Office Building of the Church in Kingston. We are spending a great deal of our time here and will be until we leave the island on Sept. 4th. Things are getting a little better as we learn more every day. Except for seven of our elders that are coming to Jamaica being stranded in Dallas for three days - it was a good week!

mission office

Here is the mission office of the Church in Kingston ...and our 'home' for at least 8 hours a day until September!! I take that back - Presidents has said to take some time off and play when our kids come to visit - so come!!

Moon scape

On the 45 minute drive to Yallas from Kingston there is a lot of road construction. Big trucks with rock and gravel and lots of dust. This part of the road looks like a moonscape to me with all the green covered in gray dust - about 30 feet high or more.

Conference in Yallas Branch

The Yallas Branch enjoyed General Conference - Saturday we had 17 members come and Sunday 44!! On Sunday several sisters brought food - here are the Relief Society Sisters serving like in most church events. The kids played out on the lawn in front of the building until afternoon session was beginning. The members ate both inside the church and on the small patio. Such great leadership from our Prophet and the Apostles...now if we can all improve our lives and do better!
